Smooth Grooves is a jazz duo consisting of alto saxophone and piano/guitar. The light sound produced by this combination of instruments make the duo the ideal choice to accompany dinners and receptions.
Our fresh approach to jazz standards, coupled with years of musical experience, ensures quality entertainment for every occasion. We pride ourselves on our sense of professionalism and aim to provide a flexible and extremely groovy set!

Carl Brunsdon
Alto Sax/Double Bass
Carl graduated from Leeds College of Music with a degree in Jazz, Contemporary and Popular Music. He has played jazz and funk since a very early age in a number of professional bands and continues to perform and record on a professional level with various musicians throughout the country.
Steve Moore
Piano
Steve studied Music at Oxford University and was the Head of Music at Wilmslow High School until 1996. Steve is an active jazz musician in the North West and has played with several professional musicians including Alan Barnes, Stacey Kent, Mark Nightingale and Kenny Baker. He is now a professional piano tutor and is a qualified examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Jim Kirkpatrick
Guitar
Jim has performed and toured internationally during the past five years. He is in demand as a session guitarist and has appeared on a number of albums. He was the regular guitarist for singer/songwriter Thea Gilmore and he has also performed with Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake) and FM. He has recently released his own album 'Changed Priorities' to high acclaim.
Paul Murfin
Drums
Paul is a consumate and experienced professional. He is an active jazz performer in the North West and has played with several professional musicians including 'The Coasters' and 'Loving Cup'. He has also appeared at Guilfest and on various Radio 2 live sessions. He is the current drummer in various re:groove bands.
