The Box Groove Coolers

Groove ... in a box ... that is cool

The Box Groove Coolers formed in summer 2008 when guitarist Alex Bond and bass player and Leeds music graduate Dave Lilley decided to get together a group to develop some of the grooves they had been working on for a couple of years.

Dave and Alex are both long time members of Cheshire based funk outfit, ‘Funk School', a ten-piece funk band led by Funk-Colonel Carl Brunsdon which specialises in covering the work of a variety of funk and soul artists including James Brown and Maceo Parker.

Alex had also previously been involved with Manchester outfit ‘The Northern Quarter Groove Band' playing monthly gigs at The Ruby Lounge through which he met drummer Lelo Jasiak. When that band parted company in early 2008 he decided the time was ripe to embark on an original venture.

Over the summer of 2008, Dave and Alex started to put together some original material. Early rehearsals were encouraging and they began to play gigs around the area including venues such as Night and Day Cafe in Manchester and a support slot with 'Chunky Butt Funky' at A Go Go presents... in Piccadilly, London.

The lineup currently includes Carl Brunsdon (Australian Pink Floyd Show, Sonic Generation) on tenor saxophone as the group work towards recording their first demo and as of September 2009 the band have begun to work with keyboard player Chris Rushton (Boogie Knights).

Although The Box Groove Coolers' sounds is inspired by a wide range of artists they are especially influenced by the Leeds funk scene by way of artists such as ‘The New Mastersounds' and ‘The Haggis Horns'. The Box Groove Coolers are an out and out dance band and an exciting new funky outfit not to be missed.
